Anchorage, AK, is the largest city in Alaska and the U.S. state’s northernmost city. It is located in the southcentral part of Alaska on the Knik Arm of the Cook Inlet, about 100 miles (160 km) south of the Arctic Circle. The metropolitan area has an estimated population of 396,000 as of 2019.
Anchorage is the economic and transportation hub of Alaska, with nearly two-thirds of the state’s population living within its metropolitan area. Anchorage’s economy is dominated by the fishing industry, tourism, and the petroleum industry; however, a diversity of businesses and industries are present in the city.
