Aurora is located in the Denver-Aurora-Lakewood, Colorado Metropolitan Statistical Area. The city is the sixth most populous city in the state of Colorado and the 156th most populous city in the United States. Aurora was founded in 1891 and named after Aurora, Illinois.
The city is home to a large military population, as well as a diverse range of businesses and cultural attractions.
