Sacramento is the capital of the U.S. state of California and the seat of Sacramento County. It is at the confluence of the Sacramento River and the American River in the northern portion of California’s expansive Central Valley, known as the Sacramento Valley.
The district is Sacramento’s oldest neighborhood, and many of the houses here date back to the city’s earliest days. Downtown is also where you’ll find Sacramento’s tallest building, the 28-story Capitola, as well as other landmarks like City Hall, the Memorial Auditorium, and the stately Crocker Art Museum.
